World Committee on Food Security – CFS 52
Global Food and Feed Security
"Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. It is estimated that more than a billion people, one in every six human beings, may be suffering from under-nourishment." (FAO)
Making a difference in Food Security and Nutrition: The Committee for World Food Security (CFS) is the United Nations' forum for reviewing and following up on policies concerning world food security and examining issues which affect the world food situation.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. THE 17 GOALS | Sustainable Development (un.org)
Throughout the Sustainable Development Goals process, the International Agri-Food Network (of which Gafta is a member) has been engaged in the negotiations. As part of the Global Business Alliance, we have placed a priority on the 5 Ps: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnership.
The SDGs place People-centred approaches at the core of the development aspirations of the UN. Agriculture programs are needed that are ‘farmer-centred and knowledge-based’ so that the full potential of farmers, both men and women can be harnessed. Farmers need access to land, water, knowledge, inputs, and credit to grow a crop and functioning markets to sell their products.
It starts with primary producers and touches every person on the planet.
Gafta contributed to the development of the SDG position paper and supports the work of IAFN in implementing the SDGs:
